Just a reminder, this Saturday is Horizon’s summer camp/recruitment kickoff party.  Every January Hackney’s restaurant in Glenview Illinois is the location where you can first complete your summer camp applications.  For more information, click kickoff party.

It is time for Horizon’s annual holiday party.  It will be held on December 12 at the Avalon Banquets in Elk Grove Village Illinois.  If you would like to attend please RSVP right away.  For more information click Holiday Party

Horizon will be holding its annual Shop with a Friend Weekend on Saturday, November 14. Come join us shopping at Gurnee Mills mall and pizza for dinner. For more information please click Shopping Weekend

2009 Horizon Camp

The deadline for turning in your camp application is approaching quickly.  This year’s weekend camp will be held at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center in Hudson Illinois.  For dates & time, please click on the fall camp link.

Horizon Camp ended on Saturday, July 25 and I’m still recovering.  This year’s camp was a blast.  There were a lot of new people that brought new spirit back to the camping experience.  We had our largest turnout with nearly 200 people throughout the week.  The camp and recruitment committees worked hard in the organization process and everyone had a wonderful time.

There were many of our favorite activities including Arts & Crafts, swimming, karaoke and our pizza party.  One new activity that was quite popular was our Cabin Feud game show.  We combined cabins and they competed against others.  Congratulations to Owl/Hawk for their victory.  It was fun and exciting to watch but there was some controversy and a couple of teams were not pleased with the outcome.  People have to realize it was ONLY A GAME!  Horizon did bring back its Carnival evening and there were several creative games for everyone to participate in.

It is hard to imagine seven days going so quickly but that happens every year at Camp.  By the time people get to know one another it’s time to pack up.  Please feel free to leave a comment about your camp experience that you just will not forget or something you would like to share with others.

Horizon is busy planning 2009 Summer Camp.  The activities staff are working on some new ideas for activities that will use this year’s theme “TV SHOWS.”  We have the most adults with physical disabilities applying for this year’s camp but, we are needing volunteers.  If you are able to volunteer this summer please fill out an application on our summer camp page.  No experience necessary, just a willingness to help.

We could also use assistance to help set up camp, on Saturday, July 18.  So if you are unable to come for the entire week, come on down Saturday to help in visit with your friends from Horizon.  For more information about this year summer camp please e-mail camp@associationofhorizon.org.

Saturday evening March 21, around 70 Horizon members enjoyed a well played hockey game.  It was a good defensive battle and close game throughout.  Ending regulation time in a 2-2 tie, entitled the audience to some extra hockey.  The sudden-death period was not enough time to decide a winner, so we got to watch a shoot-out .  Unfortunately the Chicago Wolves ended up going down in defeat but, Horizon did its best to scream and cheer the entire game.
How about that stream the entertaining laser light show when they announced the starting lineup?  Very entertaining and worth the price of the ticket alone.

The official start to our 2009 camp season began Saturday at the Recruitment Kickoff Party at Hackney’s Glenview. Thank you to those who came out in the snowy weather to enjoy some time with their Horizon friends and to fill out their camp applications.

The application is now available on-line too. Since space is limited and we are anticipating a large number of new camper applicants, we have decided to fill spaces with previous Horizon campers up to March 10th. After March 10th we will begin to fill the remaining spaces on a first come, first served basis. If you are a new camper to our program, you can still submit your application before March 10th. You will be placed on a list according to date received and after March 10th we will fill remaining spaces from the list till we are full.
