It is almost time to ring in the New Year and kick off the 2011 Horizon Camp season. Join us on January 8 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Hackney’s, 1514 E. Lake Ave, Glenview. You could be among the first to fill out your camp application, while hanging out with friends and enjoy some delicious complementary appetizers.

This weekend is the Association of Horizon, Inc. annual “SHOP WITH A FRIEND.” Join us for a fun day of shopping at Gurnee Mills mall. For more information click on the shopping link.
The holidays are approaching quickly and what could be better than eating chocolate when it’s cold and dreary outside? The Association of Horizon, Inc. will be selling World’s Finest Chocolate Candy Bars. We are challenging each member of the organization to sell 2 boxes. If each person sells 2 boxes of candy, that could raise a lot of money and help pay for another person to attend summer camp.

Even though Winter is approaching quickly, Summer Camp 2011 is just around the corner. If you are not aware of what HORIZON CAMP is all about, check our 2010 video. For those of you who were there, share the memories.
After six months of planning, Horizon’s 8th Annual Golf Outing and Luau arrived back on August 7. This year’s outing went off without a hitch, the weather was beautiful and everyone had a great time. There were 72 golfers and over 160 luau participants. This is a great number despite the current economic situation. The event had many new attendees this year and we are looking forward to seeing all of come back next year.
We would like to think the entire committee for their hard work and dedication. With everyone’s help we’ve raised nearly $15,000! One of our highest totals over the years.
Have you ever wanted to participate in a beanbag tournament? Do you or someone you know like to play bags? We have the perfect tournament for you.
Horizon will be hosting a “Bags and Beer Tournament” on Saturday, September 18. Event will begin at 2 p.m. at the Bemis Woods North Forest Preserve in Western Springs!

Now that summer camp is over, we found out we had over 220 total participants. This is an increase of 40 people over our previous year. A special thanks goes to everyone on the recruitment committee and the camp committee for all of their hard work in making summer camp a huge success. There were a lot of new disabled adults and volunteers that were a lot of fun and we hope they continue to support Horizon throughout the year.
The week was filled with fun activities, including old favorites like Creaoke, Bill Hoffman’s Amazing Animals, pontoon boat rides just to name a few things. If you were part of this year’s camp leave a comment on what was your favorite activity (eating at the cookout doesn’t count).
It took everyone involved to make it a wonderful time and I myself can hardly wait for Summer Camp 2011. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE
July 18 summer camp Horizon 2010 will begin. A special thanks to the entire camp committee for working so hard at planning no week. It sounds like it’s going to be a wonderful week of camp with a variety of activities. If you are unable to attend for the week, we could always use your help for setting up & cleaning up camp. We would like to have a large turnout for this event. Come visit with your friends watch affordable baseball and that evening is $2 Tuesday, this means drinks are only $2 and that includes beer!! Of course, you must be 21 years of age to purchase beer. So please send in your money ASAP, because time is running out to join in for a fabulous evening of baseball.
